  1. 1895

     

    After Tunis ans Sousse, the year 1895 saw the birth of the third Tunisian Chamber of Sfax, under the name of the Mixed Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture of the South, which covered all the governorates of southern Tunisia.

  2. 1929

     It was under the leadership of this Chamber that the port of Sfax was rebuilt and the Sfax-Gafsa railway line was put in place. As it will be the basis for the creation in 1929 of the Oil Office in Sfax which it will manage for a few years.

  3. October 1957

     

    All the Chambers were abolished after independence, by Law No. 57-45 of October 9, 1957, abolishing the Economic Chambers.

    4 new Tunisian Chambers of Commerce were established by Law n ° 57-67 of December 31, 1957, establishing Chambers of Commerce in Tunisia. Art. 1st stipulates: “It is instituted: a Chamber of Commerce in Tunis, a Chamber of Commerce in Bizerte, called Chamber of Commerce of the North, a Chamber of Commerce in Sousse, called Chamber of Commerce of the Center and a Chamber of Commerce in Sfax, known as the Southern Chamber of Commerce ”.

     

  4. May 1988

    Formerly, in Tunisia, the Chamber is translated by “Alhojra”, and this, until the promulgation of the law n ° 88-43 of May 19, 1988 establishing the CCI, where the new term “Alghorfa” replaced the Ancient.

    In 1988, the denomination of the Chambers was modified by the promulgation of the law n ° 88-43 of May 19, 1988 establishing the CCIs. From this date the Chambers are not only of Commerce, but also of Industry, hence the new abbreviation (CCI): “الغرفة التجارية والصناعية”

  5. NOVEMBER 1992

     

    In 1992, the CCI structure spun off with the installation of 4 other Chambers: the North-West CCI, the Cap Bon CCI, the South-East CCI and the South-West CCI, established by law no. ° 92-112 of 23 November 1992, amending and supplementing law n ° 88-43 of 19 May 1988 establishing the CCIs.

  6. May 1993

     

    The decree of application of this law n ° 93-1190 of May 24, 1993 modifying decree n ° 88-1027 of June 6, 1988 relating to the organization, operation and delimitation of the territorial district of CCIs, was promulgated with the objective of fixing the new territorial division of the four old and the four new Chambers which form the eight CCIs which function until today.

     

    The legislator intervened by the law which currently governs the CCI, law n ° 2006-75 of November 30, 2006 relating to the CCI. This law changed the name of CCIs in Arabic, but has no impact on its name in english, which remains “Chamber of Commerce and Industry”.
