The chamber of Commerce and Industry of Sfax informs all economical operators operating in the leather and footwear sector that according the official Tunisian customs bulletin n°001 of January 2022, it has been decided to submit the importation and exportation of leather to the interests inspection of the National Centre for Leather and Footwear in order to ensure that their quality and quantity conforms with the following requirements and procedures:
-This procedure contains the import authorizations relatives to Leather under tariff headings 41.01 to 41.07 and the export authorizations relative to Leather under tariff headings 41.01 to 41.15.
-Excluded from this procedure are the import or export leather samples via postal parcels and leather quantities less than 100 m2, as well as the industrial establishment’s purchases exported within the framework of supplying the local market in raw leather or half-finished necessary to their activity.
-The declarant must file the customs declaration at the customs office for inspection and obtain an appointment for the inspection process by the customs services, then coordinate with the authorities of the National Center for Leather and Footwear in order to designate an expert and appoint a date for the inspection of merchandises.
-The process of inspection and merchandise control is carried out in the premises of the establishment’s store and done at the stage of unloading the merchandises from the container or during their shipment, according to whether process is related to exportation or importation.
-The customs inspector records the examination process results on the back of the customs declaration, taking into account the inspection report of the National Centre for Leather and Footwear expert, which includes the determination of the merchandise’s quality and the estimation of their quantity, and attach the report with the customs declaration.
