The first Tunisian-Libyan sectoral forum in the domain of building and public works 29-June 2021
Under the administrative supervision of the Ministry of Equipment, Housing and Infrastructures and the Libyan Ministry of Housing and Reconstruction, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Sfax, organized “the First Tunisian-Libyan Sectoral Forum” June 29,2021 in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Tripoli and many other Tunisian professional structures like the Order of engineers, The Order of Architects and the National Federation of Entrepreneurs of Building and Public Works (FNEBTP), of UTICA, under the slogan of
“The role of Design Offices and Consultation in the Success of Major Projects”
During the inauguration of the activities of this forum, the Minister of Equipment, Housing and Infrastructures Kamal Doukh underlined the promotion of bilateral cooperation in the domain of planning, housing, building and public works with emphasis on Tunisian skills that are ready to lend their expertise to support the finalization of the construction and reconstruction projects in Libya.
At the same time, the Minister also reviewed same statistics related to key actors of the building sector and public works in Tunisia, (6500 businesses of Building and public works, 400 design offices and engineering-advice, 2800 architects and 160 experts in measurement and cadastre). All these experts are highly qualified and willing to lend their acquired expertise in the projects of Libya’s reconstruction.
Experiences of Tunisian institutions specialized in building, construction and urban planning and environmental planning were presented, such as “the Housing Agency”, “The Rehabilitation Agency” and “Urban Renovation”, “Libyan Engineering Trades” and many municipalities.
A group of participants at the discussion session also suggested the realization of a twining between the Tunisian and the Libyan municipalities, as a starting point for experiences exchange, implementation of coordination projects and information exchange between the professional engineering structures of the two countries.
The forum program consisted of workshops and round tables on the axes of urban development, strategic planning, urban rehabilitation, the role of design offices and the implementation of pending projects.
It also included a dialogue platform that represented a space for discussion and interactive dialogue and an opportunity of networking between the Tunisian and the Libyan parties.
This meeting resulted in the conclusion of an accord protocol on June 30, 2021 between the Tunisian Order of Engineers and the General Union of Engineering Trades in Libya.
